Hero's Choice

Dread Pirate
And we have reached the end. It's been a blast--thank you, everyone who's read and followed along!

Being a Chosen One sucks, in Hero’s opinion. The big questions in his life don’t revolve around how to ask out the local village girls or whether his birthmark (a bright blue metallic star in the middle of his forehead) is ever going to fade.

No, he gets saddled with a Destiny. It’s not like he’s the usual Chosen One type, either. He’d rather follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Dark Lord, complete with burning down villages when he feels like it. And while life is never dull--he's kidnapped by rangers, haunted by a bossy ghost, and there's the obligatory quest, complete with dragon--nothing postpones his Destiny.

Hero really hopes he has a choice in fulfilling the prophecy--the one that says he will kill his father when he turns fifteen. But what if he doesn’t?

Part 1
Dark Lord Mrakota has always been unconventional. So when he finds the infant Chosen One prophesied to kill him, he adopts the boy and raises Hero as his son. This does not go over so well with the rangers and the Guild of Old Mentors, however...

Part 2

Old Mentor Adom and the ranger Greenhood invade Mrakota's castle to rescue Hero. Mrakota, never having dealt with a fussy baby before, is in a bad mood--he certainly doesn't appreciate the added headache brought on by the Forces of Good trying to steal his son...

Part 3
Mrakota finds his expectedly treacherous adviser, the Stargazing Wizard, trying to indoctrinate Hero. Things are certainly not going any easier, and he doubts the Stargazing Wizard will give up the attempt to turn Hero against him as the boy grows up...

Part 4
Hero discovers the ghost of an Old Mentor is haunting his bedroom. Mrakota, on the other hand, would gladly take chatty ghosts over the board meeting he suffers through--evil advisers are worse than heroic invaders, some days....

Part 5
A ride in the woods doesn't go so well when the rangers ambush Hero and Mrakota. Taken to a secret base, Hero meets more Old Mentors than he ever wanted to, and Mrakota realizes he might have eliminated his one source for finding Hero before something worse happens to his son...

Part 6
Mrakota rescues Hero, but as the years pass, Hero begins to doubt how much of a choice he really has when it comes to his Destiny. A sword fighting accident suddenly seems less like an accident--and an unpleasant murder in the castle halls makes Hero wonder if Mrakota is going to kill him next.

Part 7
Surly teenager Hero is sick of being bossed around by Mrakota, so he marches off on a quest. While Mrakota doesn't know what to do about it and worries Hero will get himself hurt, the ghost Adom is highly pleased by how things are turning out. Hero's Destiny grows ever more unavoidable...

Part 8
Hero is back from his quest--on the night the prophecy says he will kill Mrakota. Hero recounts his adventures, but conversation can only last so long. The moment to fulfill his Destiny has come.

Part 9

Hero makes his choice.

Part 10
The Finale!

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me with this story, and special thanks to everyone who has read it and left comments or spread the word. You guys are awesome! :D

I really enjoyed it all the way through...it was really painful waiting all week for another installment! I laughed out loud at times-and so got more than a few odd looks at the coffee shop.

I hope to see another one like this sometime soon.
